Trip to Dala Gundi and Joysara Gundi Falls near Mala village, Karkala, Udupi
Date : 14-10-2012
Route: Karaka -> Bajagoli -> Mala -> Dala Gundi and Joysara Gundi
Note: These falls are not in reserve forest, so permission from forest department is not required
After a long time, we planned to have one outing, started searching for some picnic spot near by Udupi. Our intention was to have relaxation from our daily routine. One of my friend started searching in the internet, then we got some information from Rakesh Holla's blog about Dala Gundi and Joysara Gundi. We called him to know more about that place and came to know that it is easy to reach.
After the lunch at 3:00PM, we went to another falls which named as Joysara Gundi, this also 10 minutes walk from the road. Here we could not spend much as it started rain heavily. Then we came to the house where we had requested to prepare food. There we all took rest for half an hour and waited for rain to stop. We left the Mala at 5:00PM and came back to Udupi at 7:00PM.

Next, our job was creating interest about the picnic and trekking in our group, so we started to advertise and made many to agree for this picnic. Till Thursday the number was varying between 10 - 25. Finally everybody confirmed on Saturday.
We started from Manipal at 8:00AM and reached Karkala at 8:45AM. There we had to wait for 45 minutes, but we were enjoying that too, because we didn't have any other option.
We reached to Mala at 10:00AM, had food and went to Dala Gundi (Dana Gundi). From the parking it is nearly 1Km walk to the falls. The local people use this water for drinking purpose, so they have put a notice saying that playing and taking bath in the water is prohibited We were there in the falls till 2:00pm, most of us were doing adventures by climbing the rocks above the falls and identified a best place for relaxing in the flowing water.
